James Campos
Commissioner
James
Campos was appointed the Commissioner of the Nevada
Consumer Affairs Division on January 30, 2007 by Governor Jim Gibbons. He
has served in both the public and private sectors, working in areas such as
publishing, telecommunications, strategic business consulting, political
campaigns and as a professor. His business background gives him expertise in
marketing, business development, international business, human resources,
operations management and strategic analysis and implementation.
Campos’ career in Nevada started with
work on the campaign of Nevada Attorney General Brian Sandoval (now a
federal judge in Reno). He later worked with the Bush-Cheney 04 campaign and
then in 2006 became the Coalitions Coordinator for the Gibbons for Governor
Campaign. He is the former Director of the Southern Nevada office of
Governor Gibbons.
Campos has been active in community
oriented organizations, and selected to participate in various boards. He
has attained numerous recognitions to his credit. He was appointed to serve
on the Government Affairs and Foundation Board of the Las Vegas Latin
Chamber of Commerce and served as Coalition Co-Director of the Nevada
Republican Party. In 2006, Campos was named Professional of the Year by the
highly revered Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce. He has also been
recognized by the White House as a national Hispanic leader.
Campos holds both a Bachelor of Arts and
a Master of Science degree from the University of Maryland, Master of
Business Administration from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and a
post-graduate business certificate from Georgetown University in Washington,
D.C. While completing his first Master degree, Campos attended the
University of Oxford, Corpus Christi in England where he studied business
management and literature. He also studied in Barcelona, Spain for a
semester while studying for his second Master degree. He served on the
University of Maryland’s Judicial Honor Board and was President of the
University of Glasgow’s MBA Society. He has taught organizational
operations, international management, marketing, strategy, public relations
and human resources at the University of Phoenix and at the College of
Southern Nevada as an adjunct professor.
Campos’ experience also includes living
abroad in seven different Latin American countries. He is trained as a
conflict resolution mediator with Clark County Neighborhood Justice Center
and serves as a Board Member of the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth.
Commissioner Campos also achieved the designation of Certified Inspector /
Investigator by the national Council on Licensure, Enforcement and
Regulation in March 2007.
